I remember calling my brother back in 1997, to tell him that Bill and I had bought land on Block Island. It was quite the bold endeavor. My brother was quiet for a moment. He said, "What are you going to do now?" The answer was that we were going to build a big house high on the hill and rent it out in the summer. All those bedrooms were the center piece of our plan to keep on working on the mainland, use the rental to defray expenses and then retire here when we were in our 60's and early 70's. In other words, we planned to get here in the future - right about now, in fact. The only problem was that once we built on Block Island, we wanted to be here on the island, as much of the time as possible. So renting the house became the way to stay here. Bill and I retooled our careers and except for Bill running all over the world, we were able to be here most of the time.
Bill and I want to express our deep appreciation to the wonderful people who have stayed in our house in the summer. It was all of you who made it possible for us to have the best and luckiest time in our lives. With rare exceptions, our renters cared for our house the way they cared for their own. They stood with us for years and years. Many of them have become our friends.
The house offered for summer vacation through Offshore Property and through Bill and I directly. If you’re interested in knowing more, you can write to me at email@example.com.
